New records in the lichen family Verrucariaceae (Ascomycota) from Argentina

چکیده
Four interesting lichens belonging to Catapyrenium, Placidium and Placopyrenium genera (Verrucariaceae) were collected for the first time in Argentina. Catapyrenium exaratum was only reported from Chile and Perú. Placidium acarosporoides was previously known from North America, Chile and South Africa. Placidium pilosellum, a widespread and common species, but little known in South America. Finally, Placopyrenium bucekii, a mediterranean–submediterranean lichen, represents a new record from South America. For these taxa we provide a brief description with emphasis on the ecological aspects and distribution maps.

Molecular phylogeny of Heteroplacidium, Placidium, and related catapyrenioid genera (Verrucariaceae, lichen-forming Ascomycota).
PREMISE OF THE STUDY Verrucariaceae is a fascinating lineage of lichenized fungi for which generic and species delimitation is problematic due to the scarcity of discriminating morphological characters. Members of this family inhabit rocks, but they further colonize soils, barks, mosses, and other lichens. Our aim is to contribute to the DNA-based inference of the Verrucariaceae tree of life an...
متن کاملPhylogenetic study of Catapyrenium s. str. (Verrucariaceae, lichen-forming Ascomycota) and related genus Placidiopsis.
The current classification of what used to be called Catapyrenium comprises eight genera belonging to distinct lineages in the Verrucariaceae. Previous phylogenetic studies have shown that the redefined genus Catapyrenium (Catapyrenium s. str.) is monophyletic and sister of Placidiopsis within the Staurothele group, but this relationship was based on only two species from each genus. We conduct...
متن کاملUsing a multigene phylogenetic analysis to assess generic delineation and character evolution in Verrucariaceae (Verrucariales, Ascomycota).
Verrucariaceae are a family of mostly crustose lichenized ascomycetes colonizing various habitats ranging from marine and fresh water to arid environments. Phylogenetic relationships among members of the Verrucariaceae are mostly unknown and the current morphology-based classification has never been confronted to molecular data. A multilocus phylogeny (nuLSU, nuSSU and RPB1) was reconstructed f...

A large collection of Botryosphaeriaceae isolates obtained from fruit and forest trees with fruit rot, canker and dieback disease symptoms in northern provinces of the country were examined in this study. Based on morphology and sequence data (ITS and EF1-α), two species, Diplodia mutila and Spencermartinsia viticola are illustrated and described as new records for Iran mycobiota. Furthermore, ...
متن کاملA new species of Anthracocarpon (Verrucariaceae) from Argentina
Anthracocarpon andinum, a new terricolous species, is described from northern Argentina. The most important differences from A. virescens (Zahlbr.) Breuss are in thallus morphology and size and shape of the ascospores. Anthracocarpon andinum develops a squamulose thallus covered by a sulcate epinecral layer. The squamules of A. virescens are smaller, thinner and covered by a thin and continuous...
